Lincoln County Community Theater, in residence at Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater, wants to remind folks that auditions are scheduled for Wednesday, January 25th and Thursday, January 26th from 6-8 pm at the Lincoln Theater for its upcoming production of four one act comedies from the “let it all hang out” 1960’s. The evening will offer three of Robert Anderson’s short plays from, “You Know I Can’t Hear You When the Water’s Running,” coupled with Murray Schisgal’s comedy, “Dr. Fish.” The quartet of plays is scheduled to open March 2nd and play weekend performances through March 11. Al D’Andrea, director of last season’s production of “Doubt” is set to direct this peek back to a time when America began to realize that the “Leave It to Beaver” Cleavers were not necessarily the final authorities on love, marriage and, of course, sex.
In “The Shock of Recognition,” a playwright makes a case to a reluctant producer that the theater is finally ready for “meaningful nudity” and discovers an overeager, job-starved actor who is more than willing to show his stuff. “The Footsteps of Doves” looks in on a long- married couple who are shopping for twin beds after many years in their fifty four inch bed. Unfortunately, one is eager for the change and the other frightened by it. The unexpected arrival of a younger shopper only adds another complication. In “Dr. Fish” a middle-aged couple, anxious to make their sex life more "meaningful," consult the eminent Dr. Fish, a “sexpert,” whose doctorate, odd as it sounds, happens to be in American history. For a windup “ I'm Herbert” concerns two old, old people sitting on a porch in a pair of rocking chairs and talking. Just talking—and of course they don't know how funny they are. Each has had one or more previous marriages and perhaps a few flings, but they are hazy as to details. In fact, they don't always recall who the other one is. The evening calls for a cast of three to seven men and two to six women, depending on doubling. Actors will be double-cast according to suitability for roles and audition turnout. Accordingly, please prepare sides for two roles you believe you are right for.
Copies of the complete individual playlets and the scenes to be used in auditions can be downloaded below or can be borrowed from the theater business office, open Tuesday through Friday from 1-5pm. For additional information please call the theater business office at 563-3424.
LCCT can’t promise bell-bottoms, miniskirts, or fringed jackets but it invites all actors and wannabe actors to join us to look at a time that is not as different from today as you might have thought.
